Greenbelt Festival and Greenfibres

The TrueVan team heads off for Greenbelt this weekend and there is a huge amount of filmmaking planned. As the van will be around for three days the obvious decision was to split the time into three distinct sessions, which all share a unifying theme: the Israeli-West Bank barrier. Those at the festival can visit the van and take part in whichever session they prefer and the aim is to produce a film that addresses that session’s particular question.

  • The first session is titled What unites? What divides? The group will be asked to research the issues that can unite or divide a group of people. They will be expected to consider religion, culture, politics, race etc. This will include Key points about The Israeli West-Bank barrier. If interested in making a film that focuses on this topic then you can either turn up at 10 am on Saturday or 10 am on Sunday.
  • At 1 pm on both Saturday and Sunday the filmmaking will focus on the statement of Walls around the world. The group will take a look at the many walls around the world. It would be good to encourage them to take a map on the VOX pop shoot and ask people to show where they think there maybe physical division in place. They can then show a range of facts and walls in their edit.
  • The last of the three sections looks at the question, Why Walls? The group will examine why groups often use walls to separate people. Is conflict reduced? What does separation achieve?

There will also be editing sessions so that those participating can learn a bit about how the process works and can help put the finishing touches to their film.

In addition to this we have some great interviews lined up…a few tentative ones in the pipeline and a few backstage passes so filmmakers can get to the heart of the action.

Sign up for the daytime sessions on Friday night between 6 and 7pm at the van (which will be parked by the youth venue)

Come along to ‘rant’ at the video booth between 6 and 7 on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Friday’s rant will be about fair-trade (those who get there first will get some fair-trade goodies!), Saturday’s rant will be about Politics and Sunday you can rant about fairtrade or politics.

The films will be showcased at the seminar alongside participants talking about their experiences as filmmakers at Greenbelt.

Each evening between 6-7pm the True Van will be open for a festival rant. Anyone and everyone will be invited to use the True Van booth to discuss their experiences at the festival. This footage will be edited by True Van workers and used as a light-hearted way to close the seminar. Everyone who uses the ‘festival rant booth’ will be invited along to the seminar to watch themselves on the big screen!

All of the films that are made will be shown at our final event at the BFI on 28th November.

The TrueVan project has been running for just over a month now and we have visited a number of amazing youth groups around the country but one thing that has been something of a let down has been the fact that we have not had any branded merchandise. This has now changed. The wonderful people at Greenfibres have very generously provided us with tee-shirts to wear. They are an ecological and ethical clothing company based in Devon. A big thank you to them.

The tee-shirts were printed up with the TrueTube logos and the like by a great little company in Streatham called Streetz Boutique. If you have any printing needs check them out at 1 Sanders Parade, Streatham, SW16 5NL, streetz-boutique@hotmail.co.uk and 07930613253.
